telephoto lens..macro lens..tele-macro lens?

I have a canon rebel xt, and I want to get a new lens.
I’m interested in telephoto lenses, and macro lenses
and I’m looking around the ineternet, and find a tele-macro lens.

There are a few true macro lenses made by Canon. I had the 50 mm f 2.5 (full frame) and it’s very sharp. It focuses loudly.

I replaced it with the 100 mm f 2.8. Keep in mind that because of your camera’s smaller sensor, it works like a 160 mm lens (100 x 1.6). So this is not really a walk-around-every-day lens. They also make an EF-S lens, 65 mm, I believe, and it was highly rated by Popular Photography magazine ( http://www.popphoto.com )

The longer lens, the 180 mm, is quite expensive (over $1,200).

By the way, “longer” a macro lens, the more working distance you have from the camera to the subject.

If you want to invest in a good telephoto lens, the Canon 70-200 mm f 4 L (under $700) is actually a bargain. It’s very sharp and it will outlast your camera. There are less expensive version (PP just reviewed the 55-200 mm lens, under $260 or so), and gave it a good review, as well.
