Roger Smith Just Enough Jazz Music CD Review

Not sure what’s happening with me on this one, but it seems like the more I listen to it, the better Just Enough gets. Just Enough stated simply is one of Roger Smith’s best CDs to date.

Just Enough will grab your attention right out of the gate with Rough Cut and doesn’t let go until the very last note of the very last song Friday, which is another great track by the way.

One of the refreshingly nice things about this CD is the way all of the participating artists seem to be really enjoying themselves. Combine that with the overall presentation and you’ve got one of Roger Smith’s most impressive releases ever.

Just Enough is a first rate CD, delivering a little something for everyone. I give it my highest recommendation. It’s quite simply great listening. A must buy if you’re even mildly into Jazz music.

While the entire album is outstanding some of my favorites are track 4 – I’ll Always Love You, track 11 – Just Another Day, and track 13 – Friday

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 – Rough Cut. Great track!

thinking of buying a ukulele?

i already play guitar and keyboard. should i get a ukulele? there’s one at dave phillips (a music store near me) that is $40 and you get a free bag for it. it’s a Johnson Hawaiian Soprano Ukulele UK-120. is this a good ukulele and should i get it? is it fun to play? is it hard to play? and any other info i should know about it?
the reason i did not choose someone as a best answer is because i only got one answer and it sucks. she was totally wrong. the ukulele is fun and easy. it is worth all forty dollars and more.

HI,
There are four sizes of Ukuleles. 1) Saprano: smallest body, higher tone with 12 frets Strings G-C-E-A( most affordable); Tenor: bigger body, deeper tone 16 frets, wider fret boarded easier for adults to play, strings G-C-E-A (most popular); Concert: Tenor size body, 12 frets, strings same; Baritone: Bigger body than Tenor (small guitar), deeper tone than tenor, strings D-G-B-E (chord fingering is different from the others), you would have to translate chords from the standard G-C-E-A tuning.

There are a lot of learning material, books, chords on the internet. Learn the basic vamps in the basic keys F, C, G and A. There are Hawaiian vamps, show tune vamps, etc. Get a good chord book. Giocolletti’s on Carlsbad Village Drive is a great place to start looking. He also has a great ukulele selection. Play them all and listen to the sound you like the best. You will be surprised to find some of the lesser expensive one sound as good or better than the higher priced ones.

Knowing music is a big plus and speed up your learning more complicated tunes and timings. Strum patterns are very important eventually.

It is extremely easy but takes a little dedication and patience like any musical instrument. Coming to play with this group is very good for keeping the motivation going.

Not really, just be prepared to do something very enjoyable and satisfying. Learning something new, meeting people with the same interests, etc.

That about it. Its great fun. I love Hawaiian music so I’m in heaven. Aloha Nui Loa.
